Following the Makassar's congress with the newly elected chairmen, namely KH Sahal Mahfudz and KH Said Aqil Siradj, an special team appointed to arrange a new management that will help the two mandatories is now in need of picking professional figures.

Dr Bina Suhendra of the NU Healthcare Institution (LPK NU) expected the appointed team to take into into account of a very principle measure in determining names to be positioned in the new NU management, namely professionalism.<>

Suhendra considered that the professionalism was a must in running any organization, including the Nahdliyin-based organization, saying that the fresh figures in the NU management should not be based on such principles as close relationship and representation.

"A good selection is a prerequisite of the NU successful with the help of its servants," Suhendra told NU Online here on Thursday.

Learning from his experience during the NU leadership under KH Hasyim Muzadi, Suhendra said that Hasyim was a leading figure having the courage and good management capabilities but was not supported by structures being able to run his both vision and mission.

"Finally, as if Pak Hasyim has worked by himself, whereas the others could not follow him," Suhendra said, adding that this was an important lesson that should be taken into consideration before arranging NU management for the coming period.

He also said that KH Abdurrahman Wahid was not wrong for choosing Hasyim as his successor because of his good managerial capabilities. From his personal experience, Hasyim had always been monitored in running various NU programs, Suhendra said.

"He (Hasyim) has extraordinary managerial capabilities not only in doing evaluation in the end, but also in the process control," Suhendra said, adding that a strong leader would not be able to run his organization without professionals. (mkf)
