United Development Party (PPP) chairman Suryadharma Ali said Tuesday the party would hold an internal meeting within the next two weeks to discuss the split within the party over presidential candidates.

Suryadharma told reporters here Tuesday that joining Yudhoyono's Democratic Party coalition and supporting Yudhoyono-Boediono pair for the July 8 presidential election was the PPP's decision, but apparently some party activists had indicated they would support other candidates.<>

One of the activists is PPP executive Lukman Hakiem Syaifuddin who support candidate Jusuf Kalla and his pair Wiranto.

"Thus if anyone does things different from the policy and the decision, we will have to bring this matter into a meeting to decide what we have to do," he said.

"It is surely a violation to our party's policy," Suryadharma said, referring to Lukman's action.

He said that he had earlier told Lukman that the latter's support to Kalla-Wiranto was not of his business. But later, he corrected his statement, saying that as a PPP chairman, he had to let the party decide on the matter institutionally.

Suryadharma added that the PPP meeting would also evaluate how many more PPP executives giving supports to candidates other than Yudhoyono-Boediono. (jp/dar)
