PKNU: JK represents NU followers

Presidential candidate Jusuf Kalla (JK) is considered to have represented the NU followers (Nahdliyin) because he has the same ideological, cultural, and national view as that of NU.

Chairman of the Ulema National Awakening Party (PKNU) Choirul Anam (Cak Anam)  made the remarks at the PKNU national leadership meeting here on Sunday (24/5).<>

Cak Anam said the JK's NU blood could at least be shown through his important role within the Nahdliyin-based organization in which the man had ever served as the Supreme Council of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board of South Sulawesi.

Cak Anam further explained that in addition to having played important role within NU, JK had also represented Nahdliyin in the government. Moreover, he added, general chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi had also approved the support given by PKNU to the JK-Wiranto pair.

"It is really clear that within NU, JK is the representation from NU. So, if there are (NU) cadres giving no support to NU (candidate), to whom they give support," Cak Anam was quoted by Okezone.com as saying.

PKNU has officially declared its support to JK-Wiranto pair in the much-awaited presidential election which will be held on 8 July 2009.

Asked about what would be obtain by his party following its support to the JK-Wiranto pair, Cak Anam gave no any comment. As for him, JK's viewpoints were the same as his.

"As said by JK, this nation should jointly be handled to be a just, dignified and honest nation," he said. (dar)
