Vice Secretary General of the Central board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Syaiful Bahri Anshori regretted a mob of students brutally attacking the headquarters of Indonesian Muslim Students Movement (PMII) in Jakarta Tuesday (18/3).
"We do regret the anarchic act. Whatever its reason. As students they should not commit the act," Syaiful told NU Online here on Tuesday.<>
Syaiful said, admitted or not the act committed by dozens of cadres of the PMII would give negative impacts to the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
"Though the PMII is not organizationally related to the NU but people have known the PMII is an NU students-based organization."
The former General Chairman of the PMII said the chaotic mob attack would give such a bad stigma associated with NU students.
Formerly, a number of PMII cadres from South Sulawesi destroyed PMII's headquarters for being disappointed that they could not immediately head to the arena of the PMII 17th Congress held in Batam.
Syaiful also regretted the performance of organizing committee of the congress on account of both inconvenience and uncomfortable treatment to the abandoned delegates.
"The committee should introspect and immediately seek best solution," he said. (rif)
