The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) will not form new student organizations and is committed to maintain its long-standing organization so-called as the Indonesian Muslim Student Movement as part of the process of recruiting NU cadres.

Secretary General of PBNU H Marsudi Syuhud made the remarks following a call for the country's largest Muslim organization to soon set up a new student autonomous body.r />
Marsudi expressed his deepest concern over the actions of PMII cadres considered to have been far from the values of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (Aswaja) like an ongoing turmoil in its 17th congress in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan a few months ago.

"PBNU is not in need of forming a new organization as long as the PMII is clear with its NU tenets. The spirit of "clenched hands and taking a step forward" should not be understood literally," he said on the sidelines of an inauguration ceremony of new PMII officials at the Jakarta's Judicial Commission HQ on Thursday (5/5).

He was of view that the regeneration was a mandate from the NU 32nd Congress in Makassar last year, adding that it should be such a vanguard of the importance of recruiting NU cadres. (mkf)
