NU top figure calls on Nahdliyin to choose clean man to come to "power"

Rais Aam (general chairman of legislative council) of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Sahal Mahfudz expressed his deeply concern over the attitude of a number of NU board members in consistently maintaining the 1926 Khittah.
Sahal said the destruction of the mass-based religious organization could be caused by political ambition of the NU board members and their uncapability of struggling for's NU aspiration and sake.<>
"The NU's destruction and obscenity happened because of the uncapability of its board members in holding firmly to the clerics' (kiai) mandate and their political desire (to stay in power)," Sahal said.
The charismatic ulema made the statement as such an "alerting alarm" ahead of the NU's 13th conference of Central Java in coming days.
The leader of Maslakul Huda Islamic boarding school (pesantren), Kajen, Margoyoso, Pati, Central Java, called on the Branch Board to choose good clean chairmen whose consistency in maintaining the NU ulema' mandate, especially the 1926 Khittah. (mkf)
