Matters dealing with economy and prosperity for Indonesian people have so far remained unclear. For that reason, the country's largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) would develop such a concept concerning people-based economy.

General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi explained that the concept initiated by his Nahdliyin-based organization would be at least carried out through 8 subsequent meetings.<>

"It is absolutely ironic, Indonesia is a rich country but its people remain in poverty," Hasyim said at a discussion taking up a topic "The Prospect and Strategy of National Long-Term Development 2005-2025 within the Frame of Degree No 17 2007 on RJJPN 2005-2025" at the NU headquarters, Jakarta, Wednesday.

Hasyim said that so far the government's regulations had not supported economic activities. In turn, he added, this condition would make the nation's economy stagnant.

The caretaker of the Al Hikam Islamic boarding "Pesantren" school then called on those whose no such sensitivity on the scene to direct all of their energy to the developments of economy. (mkf)
