NU: RI potential to lead modern Islamic civilization

Chairman of lawmaking making body (syuriyah) of the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH Masdar Farid Mas'udi said that NU had potential to lead modern Islamic civilization if compared to other Muslim countries.

As speaking at a stadium general at the Bengkulu High Institute of Islamic Studies on Wednesday, Masdar was of view the potential could come true for the facts existing in the country.

First, Indonesia is the most populousIslamic country in the world. Second, Indonesia has abundant natural resources. Third, Indonesia is located at a strategic position, for being used for such affairs as economics and military. Fourth, Indonesian Islam is the one of the 21st century and plural.

"The important thing is that Islam in Indonesia is considerably modern and has understood in regard with the word civilization," Masdar said.

Masdar further explained any detail in dealing with the world civilization divided into four civilizations; first, Yudeo Christianism consisting of the U.S., France, and Britain. Second, Bhuddism of China. Third, Hinduism of Indonia and four is Islam having so far had no a country capable of leading the civilization. (mkf)
