NU, HSF to seek cooperation in environment and education

The Indonesia's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Hanns Seidel Foundation/Germany (HSF) Wednesday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) paving the way for the two parties to in preserving environment and pesantren education.
The Nahdliyin-based organization through the NU Agricultural Development Institute (LPPNU) will socialize programs in terms of spiritual approach-based field schools aimed at dealing with the conservation of nature and monitoring sustainable development.

To meet the purposeful programs, LPPNU will immediately fly to Germany for comparative study.
"LPPNU will conduct field schools in regions across the country to learn on how to deal with attempts of preservation, technology and so on in line with religious values," chairman of LPPNU Dr. Ahmad Dimyati said, adding that the two parties would arrange guidelines and modules of pesantren-based field schools throughout the country.
Dimyati expressed his optimism that under the directions of NU, pesantren along with its ulema (Islamic scholars), clerics, and leaders of sufi orders the cooperation could soon be realized.
He said that NU would establish pilot project field schools following its visit from Germany, adding that the schools in regard with financial matters could be taken into account by global community.
Priority programs will apparently focus on developing human and capital resources, skills related to agricultural and environmental developments. (nif)
