As the Indonesia's biggest religious social organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) has been committed to back to what called as the 1926 Khittah for not being involved in any practical politics. To make the Khittah run effectively, Nahdliyin (NU followers) are now in need of such example from NU figures.
Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Masdar F. Mas'udi made the remarks at a meeting held by Jombang's NU Branch Board at the PSBR office in Jombang, East Java on Tuesday (7/7).<>
Masdar said, the Nahdliyin that most of them living in rural areas were really in need of a good leadership from figures or top officials of the organization in maintaining and holding firmly to the Khittah.
"If the Khittah was firmly held, especially by the (NU) leaders, the ummat must follow (them), Masdar said, adding that there would be uncertain condition and public confusion if NU leaders put aside the importance of the Khittah.
Masdar asserted that the Khittah was a joint consensus that means maintaining and holding to the Khittah was considered as a good deed.
Masdar was of view NU had culturally come into existence and regarded as such emerging capital before being organizationally established by NU founding fathers. (dar)
