Indonesian experts will introduce new technic to stop mudlflow from gas field owned by PT Lapindo Brantas in Porong district, Sidoarjo regency, East Java after they failed to stop it with giant concrete balls.

They will use counter weight technic by constructing double dams near the mouths of the mudflow center with the hope that the mud will gradually stop flowing, said Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto after meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Friday.<>

He said that the technic, which was introduced by a Japanese company, had managed to stop a similar mudflow in the Philippines.

"The president welcome it and call on construction experts to discuss it with geologists," he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

Mudflow in Sidoarjo has inundated over 10,000 of houses, dozens of factories, and hectares of agricultural fields. The incident also often disrupted transportations as the mud inundated railway and roads. (tjp/dar)
