Indonesia's Moroccan ambassador Mohammad Majdi hailed the struggle of NU, the country's largest Muslim organization, in dealing with education, saying NU should greatly be appreciated for its efforts in running independent educational institutions without depending on the government's financial assistance.

Majdi made the statement as visiting the NU headquarters Jln. Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta on Tuesday. Majdi was warmly welcomed by general chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) and accompanied by deputy secretary-general of PBNU Iqbal Sullam.<>

"The struggle in the world of education has really helped the government enlighten the nation. I salute mass organizations in Indonesia having struggled for enlightening people and their nation," Majdi said.

While Hasyim Muzadi further explained that the number of educational institutions run by private organizations were more than the institutions run by the state, saying that NU would constantly be committed to improving educational institutions within the NU milieu.

Getting more information about education within NU, Majdi did appreciate any purposeful struggle of the Nadhliyin-based organization and other religious organizations in dealing with education.

"I like talking about education and issues on Islam especially in terms of Islamic education for being able to unite views between us and Muslims around the world," Majdi said. (min)
