Jember, NU Online
The supreme council of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Muchit Muzadi asserted that KH Hasyim Muzadi would not take part in pursing the general chairman position in the much-awaited NU congress.

As for Mbah Muchit, there had still been many other figures that should be given opportunity to lead the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization, adding the two-period leadership was enough for Hasyim to lead NU.<>

Mbah Muchit expected his younger brother to remain active in the Nahdliyin-based organization by involving himself in a new management board as a result of the congress.

He said what is the important thing was how to give our best service to the ummah instead of merely holding a general chairman position, adding the Nahdliyin (NU followers) could do their best for the sake of NU.

Mbah Muchit admitted that recently some candidates had met him to gest support for their candidacy as general chairman of PBNU in the  NU congress ahead.

"Yes, there have been some coming to me to inform that he will contest the race," Mbah Muchit said without mentioning certain names having come to him.

He reiterated that those willing to be board members especially general chairman of PBNU should be committed to defending and preserving the Islamic teachings of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (Aswaja).

Such names as KH Said Aqil Siraj, KH Masdar F Mas'udi, H. Abbas Muin, KH Sholahuddin Wahid (Gus Sholah), and H. Ahmad Bagja will reportedly contest the Makassar's elections ahead. (ary)
