KH Maemun Zubair hopes no dispute in congress

NU senior cleric KH Maimun Zubair (Mbah Maimun) called on all parties to remain united and prevent any possible dispute in the NU 32nd congress which is held in Makassar on 23-28 March 2010.
Mbah Maimun expected the dispute between the late KH Abdurrahman Wahid and Abu Hasan in the Cipasu<>ng's NU 29th congress not to reemerged in the Makassar's congress.
"Promote the unity and integrity. Never allow the cipasung's case reemerge (in the Makassar's congress), Mbah Maimun said.
With reference to the NU journey, Mbah Maiumun said that the organization was initially aimed at struggling for strengthening both the unity and the independence of the nation as figured in the NU loggo.
Mbah Maimun said that NU, in this regard, was such areflection of the nation's struggle, adding that the NU loggo which was previousy not equipped with rope and (nine) stars had now had the two symbols.
"So if there are possible disputes, what approaching one should first taken into account, that means, approching the truth. If there is approaching the one, that should again be preceded," he said.
Mbah Maemun further explained that NU was written in Arabic. From the loggo it could be depected that the words Nahdlatul Ulama are Arabic. There are eleven and six alphabets, the rope may not be tight as number eight. Four and five stars are epistomized as Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Khulafaur Rashidin (Abu Bakr, Umar, Usman, Ali) and imam of Islamic schools of thought.
"The loose rope sybolizes that Islam of NU, Islam of Indonesia is not extreme and is not the one leading to violence because the moderate Islam seems more appropriate to Indonesia," he said. (was)
