The leaders of political parties which will participate in next year`s general election gathered at Jln Imam Bonjol in Jakarta to meet the General Election Commission`s (KPU) invitation to declare their joint peaceful campaign.
A number of the party leaders like Agung Laksono of the Golkar Party, Pramono Agung of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Ali Masykur Musa of the National Awakening Party of Parung version, Anas Urbaningrum of the Democrat Party, MS Kaban of the Star Crescent Party, Eros Djarot of the National Independent Bull Party (PNBK), Sukmawati of the Indonesian Nationalist Party (PNI) and Fachrur Razi of the People;`s Conscience Party (Hanura) were present.<>
As reported by Antara newes agency, in their joint declaration led by Agung Laksono of the Golkar Party at the KPU office, the leaders of those contestants promised to conduct peaceful, orderly and smooth campaigns.
In addition, they also promised to carry out educative and responsible campaigns for the sake of the nation and state.
After declaring their commitment, those political parties` leaders also inked their respective signature in a big size white board.
Earlier, KPU announced 16 political parties of the 2004 general election and 18 new political parties as contestants of next year`s general election.
KPU was reported to have confirmed July 8, 2008 as the begining of general election campaign. (dar)
