Nahdlatul Ulama Students Association (IPNU) and Nahdlatul Ulama Girl Students Association (IPPNU) should understand psychological condition of adolescents in addressing the importance of caderization.

"Both IPNU and IPPNU are such big rooms for adolescents. It should be designed so they feel pleasant and comfortable," Vice Secretary General of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Taufiq R Abdullah made the remark at a workshop in Ciawi, Bogor, West Java on Friday (7/3).<>

The three-day workshop taking up issues on developing organization was held at the Management Leadership and Agriculture Training Center on 7-9 March and organized by the two NU students associations in cooperation with the Central Board of Maarif NU, Rabithah Maahid Islamiyah (RMI), Indonesian Ta'mir Masjid Institution (LTMI).

According to Taufik the two students associations of the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization should be in line with the character of adolescents in all aspects.

He suggested the character should again be designed and formatted by the adolescents themselves.

"The character of adolescents is very extensive. The adolescents are now very difficult to be differentiated either Muslims or non-Muslims. For example there are some wearing short pants and tank top but in fact they come to mosques," Taufik said, adding that this was one of the adolescents' characteristics.

He then called on both IPNU and IPPNU to inevitably bring themselves close to adolescents labeled as "naughty" and "disobedient" by for instance involving experts in dealing with the behaviors.

Taufik reminded IPNU and IPPNU of their duties related to the importance of NU mandates to deal with santris, students and adolescents.

He expected the two associations to inherit methods of preaching and communication as modeled by the Nine Saints (Wali Songo) in spreading Islamic teachings in Indonesia especially in Java island. (nam)
