Indonesia’s South Korean Embassy thanks NU

The government of South Korea has been indebted to the Indonesia’s biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) for playing its international roles in helping get the 19 Korean hostages released from the Taliban.

The statement above was an excerpt of a letter written by the Indonesia’s South Korean Ambassador Lee Sun Jin and was accepted by the General Chairman of The Central Board of nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi at the NU headquarters, Jalan Kramat Raya 164, Jakarta on Sunday.<>

“I have received a letter from the Embassy of South Korea (in Jakarta),” Hasyim said, adding that it addressed the gratitude of the government of South Korea to NU for helping the release of the 19 hostages from Taliban on 29-30 August.

Hasyim said that NU had also welcomed to the release of the hostages.

Lee Sun Jin in his letter expressed his government's appreciation to NU as the most influential mass organization for its important roles both nationally and internationally.

He also expressed his gratefulness to the government of Indonesia, a leading member of the Organization of  Islamic Conference (OIC) for taking part as an observer in the negotiations by sending its envoy to the last face-to-face talks with the kidnappers.

On account of the contribution of NU dealing with the release of the 19 hostages, Sun Jin hoped that his government would expectedly be able to further cultivate the relationship with the Nahdliyin based organization. (duta/nam)
