House told not to be affriad of naming KPK leaders

Ahead of a fit-and-proper test set to fill the vacancy in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on 18th August, general chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Said Aqil Siradj called on the House of Representatives (DPR) not to be affraid of choosing individuals for the commission's top posts.

"The KPK is the only legal institution that can now be expected to  work in accordance with strong principles. Whoever named in it must be well chosen, including the House willing to decide," Said siad here on Tuesday (10/8).

Meanwhile, the leadership selection committee for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has recently conducted profile assessments of the remaining 17 candidates for the commission's top posts.

"Today we are conducting our profile assessments together with an internationally licensed consultant, Dunamis. Today's session will include written assessments, psychological tests and interviews," Law and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar said recently.

From these assessments, the committee hopes to select eight candidates to submit to the House of Representatives for fit-and-proper tests, which will determine the four candidates who will become new KPK leaders for the 2011-2015 term.

"The assessment today is scheduled to go until 8 p.m. Dumanis will report the results to the selection committee at a plenary session tomorrow afternoon, [and the result] will be later announced to the public on Friday," Patrialis added.

After the profile assessments, there will also be background checks by the Indonesian Transparency Society (MTI), the police and the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

"Then, finally, the House is expected to come up with four names by December 19," he added.

Among the remaining candidates are rights lawyer Bambang Widjojanto, Financial Transactions Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) chief Yunus Husein, KPK advisor Abdullah Hehamahua and National Police Commission member Adnan Pandu Praja.

Previously, three of the KPK's internal candidates were knocked out of the race, including deputy chairman Chandra Hamzah, law enforcement deputy Insp. Gen. Ade Raharja and spokesman Johan Budi.
