House Speaker Marzuki Ali has asked Islamic scholars (ulema) and Islamic boarding school students to trust that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) was not involved in the Bank Century case as alleged by certain quarters.
"Trust me, he has told me that he is clean," Marzuki Ali said on Saturday at a function to mark the anniversary of the founder of Alfalah Islamic boarding, the late Ahmad Djazuli Utsman, at Ploso village, Mojo sub district, Kediri District, East Java.<>
"While he is busy drafting the 100-day administration programs for the next five years, what has happened my brothers? He has to face many ordeals and tests," Marzuki said before thousands of Alfalah students and alumni.
However, he was optimistic that the public did not trust untrue information and issues so that the democratic process could be implemented properly in Indonesia.
President Yudhoyono also asked the House of Representatives (DPR) to deal with the Bank Century bailout case transparently and justice must be upheld for the sake of the people`s welfare, he said.
The head of state had also asked the concerned authorities such as KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission), the attorney general`s office and the police to follow up the case, he added.
The House Speaker asked the ulemas and Alfalah students to pray for President Yudhoyono so that he could remain strong in facing the ordeals while implementing the people`s mandate. (ant)
