General chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU)  KH Hasyim Muzadi sent greetings over the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Indonesian second largest Muslim organization Muhammadiyah.

Today, Wednesday (25/11) the religious organization celebrated its  100th anniversary in accordance with Islamic "Hijriyah" calendar. The  organization was established on 8 Dzulhijjah 1330 H.
/> "As general chairman of PBNU, I congratulate the 100th anniversary of Muhammadiyah. NU and Muhammadiyah are like a pair of shoes.  They are different in nature, between the right and the left which cannot be separated from one another," Hasyim told reporters here on Tuesday (24/11).

As for Hasyim, both NU and Muhammadiyah had their own roles and  strengths. Muhammadiyah tends to be well-managed in regard with  organization, while NU has been stronger in its cultural basis and its closer relationship with the grassroot.

"Muhammadiyah has successfully managed its organization so that its  educational institutions and hospitals are better. But Muhammadiyah  has often met difficulties and not been patient in guiding people in  villages," Hasyim said.

Hasyim said that recently the difference between the two country's  largest Muslim organizations had increasingly been invisible. Respecting organization, NU has started managing its organization and Muhhammadiyah has increasingly strengthened its cultural basis,  he added. (nam)
