Gus Mus: People have the right to know the truth

All issues taking place among the state insitutions should not ideally be restricted because people have the right to know the truth. All thisis aimed at preventing them from any possible suspicion.

The leader of Roudlatut Thalibin Islamic boarding school (pesantren) KH Mustofa "Gus Mus" Bisri made the remarks on Sunday following the dispute between police and the Corruption Edadication Commission (KPK).<>

Gus Mus expected all national leaders to have the courage to reveal the truth and be transparent in regard with any emerging problem to public.

"That should be explained to people transparently and never be restricted. If all can publicly be known, there will expectedly be no any suspicion," Gus Mus said.

Gus Mus said, the government should, again and again, be fair in dealing with corruptors and terrorists without any possible compromise.

While, the House Commission III will reportedly invite the national police chief to explain about the police`s decision recently to detain suspended antigraft (KPK) commissioners, House member Gayus Lumbuun said in Jakarta recently.

"We, in Commission III in the House of Representatives (DPR), think there is no strong argument for the police to detain the two KPK deputies," he said after a discussion on "Polemics: Drama over Bibit and Chandra`s detention."

Gayus said the meeting between the national police chief and the commission that deals with law, security and human rights affairs was a routine event because the police was the commission`s working partner.

At the meeting scheduled for Thursday, he said, the commission would ask for an explanation from the national police chief with regard to the police`s decision to detain KPK deputies Bibit Samad Riyanto and Chandra M Hamzah to respond to public questions about it.

"The police must be able to explain the urgency of detaining them," Gayus who is also the chairman of the DPR`s Ethics Council, said.

He said the police had ignored sociological aspects in their decision to detain Bibit and Chandra since Thursday (October 29), meaning they had ignored the demand of a number of national figures for the deferment of the two anti-graft body leaders` detention. (min)
