FKB members meet Gus Dur to discuss fate of Lapindo victims

There were some 26 or half of the People Awakening Faction (FKB) members of the House of Representatives held a meeting with the General Chairman of the People Awakening Party's Advisory Board KH Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid Monday (25/2).
The meeting aimed at taking issues relating to the fate of Sidoarjo's Lapindo victims was held at the office of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) on Jalan Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta.<>
Chairman of the faction Effendi Choirie urged the government to immediately secure and evacuate Lapindo victims to safer shelters and places. He was of view the Lapindo mudflow had not been handled yet.
"Gus Dur said, FKB must struggle for people till uncertain time. The mudflow has not already been handled. So the people should be evacuated, the victims should soon be secured," Effendi quoted Gus Dur as saying.
According to Effendi, the party would constantly demand the PT. Lapindo Brantas. Inc. to be fully responsible for the fate of the victims including those living out of the mudflow affected-areas.
"The government should also be proactive by constructing damaged infrastructures for instance. That is the government's responsibility," he said, adding that the government should also involve in evacuating the victims.
The faction members were Annisah Mahfud (secretary), Khaerus Saleh Rasyid, Ana Muawanah, Bisri Romli, Dahlan Chudlori, Arifin Djunaedi, Subki Risya, Mufid Rahmad, Saidah Sa'wan, and Ali Mubarok. Mufid Busyairi, Bahruddin Nashori, Hanif Ismail, Muhammad Zubair, Nursjahbani Katjasungkana, Imam Anshori Saleh, Soeharno, Saifullah Maksum, Ida Fauziyah, Toni Wardoyo, Masduki Baidlowi, A. Hilmy Faisal Zaini, Mahfud MD, Abdullah Azwar Anas and Maria Ulfa Anshor. (rif)
