The Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board (PWNU) of East Java has banned members running for the legislature from using attributes of the country's largest Muslim organization while campaigning.
Chairman of the executive "Tanfidziyah" board of PWNU, KH Hasan Muttawakil Alallah, reiterated on Monday (16/3) that NU would remain neutral during the general elections.<>
As part of this policy, Hasan said, all legislative candidates who were currently in PWNU would see their NU board membership temporarily suspended.
"In order to avoid a conflict of interest, all legislative candidates from PWNU would be temporarily suspended. There are currently 11 members of the PWNU who are running for the seats in the legislature," Alallah said, as quoted by kompas.com.
All legislative candidates may resume their NU activity upon completion of the elections, he said. (jp/dar)
