British Muslim want Islamic books from Indonesia

British Muslims want Islamic books in Indonesia to be translated into English to enable them to learn about all the aspects of Islam in Indonesia, a member of the Indonesia-United Kingdom Islamic Advisory Group said here over the weekend.
"Many British Muslims ask for such translation," the top figure of the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Prof Nasarudin Umar was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.<>
He said the requests had arisen as many British Muslims thought Islam as practiced in Indonesia was agreeable to people in Britain.
Many Islamic institutions or organizations were looking for Islamic religion trainers or teachers from Indonesia.
He also called on Indonesian book publishers to take the benefit for the chance to expand their overseas coverage, among others, through internet.
The Indonesia-UK Islamic Advisory Group is a body established jointly by the governments of Indonesia and Britain to develop dialogues aiming to increase understanding and tolerance between Islam and the West.
Indonesia and Britain each have seven representatives in the group. The Indonesian representatives are Nasaruddin Umar, Hasyim Muzadi of the Nahdlatul Ulema (PB NU), Din Syamsuddin of the Muhammadiyah, Azyumardi Azra of the State Islamic University of Jakarta, Marwah Daud Ibrahim of the Indonesian Intellectuals` Association (ICMI), Abdul Mu`ti (of the Muhammadiyah Youth Association) and Yenny Zannuba Wahid of Fatayat NU.
