The central government said it would reduce financial support to 300 regions failing to channel the School Operational Aid (BOS) funds to local schools on time.
“The National Education Ministry and the Finance Ministry agreed to impose financial sanctions on regencies and municipalities who hadn't channeled BOS funds to schools,” National Education Minister Mohammad Nuh said on Wednesday in Depok, West Java.r />
“There are 300 [regencies and municipalities] that will be sanctioned. We will definitely impose the financial sanctions on those who have failed to disburse the funds by the due date,” he added in a press statement sent to The Jakarta Post.
Nuh said earlier that the deadline for the BOS fund disbursement was March 15.
The minister stopped short of detailing how much exactly the central government's funds for those regions that would be subject to cuts, but he did say sanctions would take effect in 2012. (dar)
