President greets happy Islamic New Year

President Joko Widodo greeted Muslims in the country "Happy Islamic New Year" on Sunday with an appeal to all community elements to use the momentum for introspection, Antara news agency reported.

He conveyed the greetings at around 10.32am in a tweet reading "Happy Islamic New Year 1438 Hijriah. This is a good opportunity for us to conduct introspection - Jkw."

President Jokowi has expressed hope that Muslims in Indonesia could be part of the worlds Muslim community that could help revive the economy.

He made the statement when opening the 12th World Islamic Economic Forum on August 2, 2016.

In his speech at the opening of the event he said he hoped Muslim community could become a driver of the worlds economy which is still slowing down following a financial crisis eight years ago.

"Under current global condition Muslim communities across the world must be able to use their fundamental power (to revive the economy)," he said. (Masdar)
