Egalitarian relationship among nations

Senin, 8 Juni 2009 | 16:58 WIB

Before the coming of the phenomenon of colonization, the relationship among fellow human beings throughout the world had been the same. If there was a war, it could easily be settled. Even two nations and two kingdoms could preserve the practice of marriage exchange, share cultural values with one another so that the relationship between the two could create everlasting peace among nations. But since the coming of the European colonization against Asian, African and Latin American countries, the relationship among nations has no longer been equal and in brotherhood. Instead, they have colonized each other and discriminated religiously, culturally, and racially.

Westernization especially europanization has occurred anywhere with the mission of civilization. Thus, the colonization achieve such noble robe under the guise of civilization because countries outside Europe, how advanced they are, have regarded uncivilized as they reject European colonizing cultures. Various empires cultural centers and historical sources have been destroyed. All this has later replaced in accordance with the European willingness and cultures being considered civilized. Europanization as well as modernization constitute a package in the colonization.<>

Actually, what delivered by US President Barack Obama to cultivate more brotherly relationship with the eastern world should ideally not be directed to the eastern world which has not recognized both colonization and discrimination. On the contrary, the western countries having constantly committed discrimination against the eastern world should be the audience of the US president's speech. This is a key element to assure world peace in the future and this must be started from now. The Obama's call to improve further relationship and mutual understanding is a mistake. In fact, Islamic countries and the eastern world have always been manipulated and repressed while doing cooperation by the western countries through diplomatic channels and international court.

When initiating the importance of unifying cultures or what called as shared culture, the expression of other cultures outside the mainstream is regarded as wild cultures, primitive and subversive. The cultures are later stigmized as terrorist. As a consequence what will in turn be arranged is not but the clash of culture. The clash which has formerly been in politics would easily be in the form of social so that the clash may give impacts on such a scale among people rather than among elite leaders.

Here is now the fact. Islam has been discriminated and portrayed in such a way and considered as the actor of any emerging violence. The religious circles whose fear of the allegations would constantly strive to reject the allegations. Even in responding to the allegations the religious circles have acted excessively in order that Islam is regarded appropriate with their cultural appetite. In the eyes of the Muslim circles whose fear of their self-image, Islam has been a naive, opportunistic thing for being considered to have lost identity, principle and dignity. The principle has been exchanged with the image and the appetite of theirs.

Nowadays, the socio-cultural problem has still been faced by the modern world to cooperate and cultivate relationship among nations based on mutual understanding and shared benefits and there is no discrimination and colonization. This may be regarded as a new step forward and not merely a call in which it can easily be changed anytime. Various wars in the eastern world have been due to the war impact from the western countries, namely the war of trade and as if the war is triggered by religion and ethnic so that the eastern countries could easily be discriminated as primitive and brutal.

The stereotype against the eastern countries through political provocations has constantly been conducted in Asia and Africa. Almost in every conflict there has been the model of the 'by-design riot. If the scene has till come into existence, the call to strengthen a new global relationship is manipulative in nature because it is based not on sincere hearts which are based on the shared insight of equal cultures. If the relationship among fellow human beings and cultures can equally be created, the relationship among nations in politics would easily be realized. (Abdul Mun'im DZ)
