President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono must come to a plenary of the House of Representatives (DPR) to answer himself the interpellation rights of legislators, Andreas Pareira, Commission I member of the House, said here on Friday.

"Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajuda’s statement at a working meeting with the House Commission I recently did not answere the substance of the government’s stance in supporting the United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 1747 which imposed additional sanctions on Iran," Pareira said.<>

As reported by Antara news agency, the UNSC recently issued Resolution 1747 which imposed stricter sanctions on Iran over its refusal to stop its nuclear enrichment program. Indonesia was one of the countries which threw weight behind the resolution.

The Indonesian government’s support, which was seen as a change in its attitude over Iran’s nulear program, to the resolution has harvested strong reactions from various circles in the country.

"Therefore, President Yudhono should come by himself at a House plenary to explain and address the interpellation the legisltaros will conduct over the government’s support to the resolution," the legislator said.

He said that in a decision making, there were areas which did not fall under the authority of the foreign minister to provide explanations.

Pareira said all participants of the working meeting recently beteween the foreign minister and Commission I were not satisfied with the explanations given by the minister.

He said it would be a good momentum for the president to come to a plenary to explain himself the matter in order to show his capacity as a responsible top executive leader.

"The presence of the president could also set a positive precedent in the future for the statesmanship of a head of state in facing whatever problem," Pareira said.

He said that the presence of President Susilo Bambang Yudhohono at a House’s plenary meeting would also serve as a good example for a sound state administration in Indonesia. (dar)
