The National Awakening Party (PKB) has declared artist Rieke "Oneng" Dyah Pitaloka the running mate for governor candidate Sarwono Kusumaatmadja in the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election.
However, Sarwono quickly added Friday the nomination of Rieke as his running mate would be discussed with other parties which support Sarwono's nomination.<>
Rieke is a popular artist in the country thanks to her role as Oneng in a TV comedy program titled Bajaj Bajuri.
The National Mandate Party (PAN) has proposed Jeffri Geovani as the vice governor candidate for Sarwono.
PKB and PAN still need supports from small parties to reach the minimum 15 percent of the 2004 votes in order to nominate Sarwono as Jakarta governor candidate.
Meanwhile, the national news agency reported that PKB most important leader Abdurrahman Wahid dubbed Gus Dur alleged that Rano Karno received fund from governor candidate Fauzi Bowo to withdraw from governor election, but Rano Karno later denied the allegation. (rif)
