For the first time, the students joined in the Annuqayah Alumni Association (IAA) held a meeting with leaders of Annuqayah Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in Guluk-guluk, Sumenep, Madura over the weekend (17 / 9).

The meeting held in the local grand mosqoue was attended by some 400 members of IAA and such pesantren Annuqayyah prominent figures as KH. Abdul Waris Ilyas, KH Ahmad Bashir and KH Abdul Muqsith.

In his speech, KH Ahmad Bashir expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions of the nations such as graft cases everywhere, from the central to local level officials.

According to the Sumenep NU figure, there have  currently been many graft cases committed massively and even collectively.

"There have been many given a mandate making use of it to pursue their own interests as much as possible. Positions that should be used as a tool to serve and serve the public, but the positions have widely been misused.

In the meantime, KH Abdul Waris Ilyas called on the alumni to keep maintaining and preserving the NU long-standing traditions.

"Any practices we have so far preserved are in line with the teachings of NU," he said. (ary)
