NU will gather world Muslim scholars to discuss Muslim brotherhood

The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) will reportedly gather world-class ulema (Muslim scholars) and intellectuals on 19-21 December 2009 at a meeting in Jakarta. The meeting will take up concepts on Muslim brotherhood.

Reportedly, some 100 ulema and intellectuals will attend the purposeful forum. They are from such countries as Iran, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iraq, Palestine, Jordan, Malaysia, Thailand, Philipine, Singapore and Indonesia.<>

The world forum will technically be held by the Indonesia-based International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) in collaboration with the Iran-based At Taqrib Baina Madhahib Al Islamiyah.

According to general chairman of PBNU KH Hasyim Muzadi, the forum is part of programs ahed of the NU 32nd congress which will be held in Makassar next year.

The Indonesia's largest Muslim organization recently held a workshop in dealing with terrorism and was participated by some 90 participants from within and outside the country.

"Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), pre-congress programs have conceptually almost been completed, remaining a concept, namely ukhuwah Islamiyah dualiyah (international Muslim brotherhood) which will be taken up (at a meeting) on 19-20 December at the Jakarta's Sultan Hotel along with world Muslim countries which will be held by ICIS," Hasyim told NU Online here on Monday (7/12).

Scores of ulema and intellectuals willing to speak at the much-awaited forum are DR Muhammad Salim Al- Awwa (Egypt), DR Bassam Sabbagh (Syria), HE Ayatullah Muhammad Ali at-Taskiri (Iran), Hujjatul Islam wal Muslimin Muchsin Qumi (Iran), Prof DR Fathullah Zayadi (Libya), Prof DR Khalid Hindawi (Qatar), Prof DR Muchsin Abdul Hamid (Iraq) dan DR Alwi Syihab and Prof DR Said Aqil Siraj (Indonesia).
