Indonesian Muslims especially those studying at Islamic universities have had no such attention to the importance of doing academic researches in wide range of disciplines.

Chairman of lawmaking body of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said here on Saturday, adding that the Qur'an has called on Muslims to deal with any purposeful research.<<>br />
"Instead, those are doing the researches are Jews. That's why, let's not upset with them. Rather, we should expectedly initiate such inventions," he said.

Hasyim was of the opinion that in Islam there was a term so-called as mukjizat (miracle) possessed only by messengers which are not bestowed to others, saying that the messengers' miraculous acts had now been capable of being conducted by ordinary people through researches.

The secretary general of the NU-sponsored International Conference of Islamic Scholars cited that the scholarly researches should be engaged by Muslims to deal with various secrets of the world. (nam)
