The young cadres of Nahdliyin (NU followers) have warned the leaders or structural figures of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU)to keep maintaining the organizational neutrality especially ahead of the presidential election which will be held on 8 July 2009.

They were of view that whatever conducted by each board member of PBNU, would, admitted or not, be considered the attitude of NU organizationally.<>

Activist of the Nahdlatul Ulama Young Generation (GMNU) of Kudus, Sholeh Syakur made the remarks for responding to a score of NU leaders having allegedly supported a certain presidential-vice presidential candidate pair. NU Online's Qomarul Adib reported on Tuesday.

According to Syakur, NU should ideally stay committed to keep maintaining its credibility in keeping up with the national political process so that the Nahdliyin-based organization could prevent from any possible political consequence.

He pointed out that that if the NU leaders gave their support for certain pair, the NU credibility would of course be entrusted, adding that the Nahdliyin should learn from previous experience in the 2004 presidential election.

"We should importantly take into account of the 2004 presidential election experience in which Nahdliyin felt disappointed and bored following the fact that KH Hasyim Muzadi along with Megawati failed in the election," he said.

What is important to note here was, he added, all NU board members in all levels should stay careful in dealing with any political process.

While deputy chairman of the NU Branch Board (PCNU) of Kudus, Sanusi Emha said that what having been conducted by NU leaders for supporting certain presidential-vice presidential pair was reasonable enough.

"So it is understandable if Pak Hasyim Muzadi personally tends to support JK because he is truly a NU follower," he said.

The lecturer at the Semarang's Wahid Hasyim University said that NU, at this point, should stay neutral organizationally and give full freedom for its individual numbers in determining their choice.

"That is why the NU cadres and followers should be solid and smart in determining their choice and maintain communication with all presidential-vice presidential election pairs and their success teams," Sanusi said, adding that he did appreciate the move conducted by the three pairs by meeting NU figures and ulema (clerics).
