The Educational Institution of Ma'arif NU and Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) of Jermany would strengthen cooperation on education having been running for the last five years. The cooperation would next be focused on increasing educational quality in especially vocational high schools (SMK).
The statement was made by the Director of HSF in Indonesia Christian J Hegemer following his meeting with the General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi in the PBNU's headquarters in Jakarta on Monday (31/3).<>
"We will not only continue, but also strengthen the long-term cooperation," Hegemer told NU Online.
Hegemer said the cooperation was initially from Hasyim's visit to Jermany five years ago to be then followed up by the HSF in Indonesia.
he said, some cooperations having so far been conducted in were vocational trainings for students of SMK in Aceh and comparison study of vocational education in Chinaand so on.
"We want to increase educational quality of vocational (high schools) in Indonesia," he said.
While Hasyim expected the government of Jermany to facilitate German language courses for NU cadres willing to continue their study in the country.
Hasyim was of view, Germany was a neutral advanced country in dealing with condition in any regions.
To 'OK' the Hasyim's expectation, Hegemer said his foundation would facilitate the purposeful German language courses by involving its Goethe Institute of Jakarta.
"Also there would be such possibilities of scholarship to Germany," he said, adding that there were some NU cadres graduating from universities in Germany.
Present also at the occasion a representative of HSF of Germany Gerhard Schmidt that would reportedly visit some regions in Indonesia such as Lampung, Lamongan (East Java), and Semarang (Central Java) to monitor the development of education in Maarif schools.
Aceng AZ of the Maarif NU said Schmidt's visit to the three regions was to take into account of what is really needed. (mkf)
