The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) called on the Nahdlatul Ulama Student Association (IPNU) and the Nahdlatul Ulama Female Student Association (IPPNU) not to involve in practical politics. The two organizations should remain focusing on recruiting student and santri cadres in schools and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren).
General chairman of PBNU KH Hasyim Muzadi made the remarks as opening the 15th Congress of IPNU and IPPNU at Pesantren Al Hikmah 2, Brebes, Central Java over the weekend.<>
As the future generations of NU, Hasyim said, the IPNU and IPPNU cadres should have vision to study and high creativity.
"IPNU and IPPNU are cadre organizations so that they should have a clear character. Let not hope both IPNU and IPPNU to be such mass organizations," Hasyim said.
The leader of Pesantren Al Hikam in Malang, East Java, said that the character of NU young generations should stay committed to constantly study and build personality.
"The Nahdliyin generations should have consistency in such fields as ecience, religion, leadership and nationhood," he said.
Hasyim expected board members of IPNU and IPPNU to be capable of increasing cadre recruitment and not to involve in practical politics. A strong character, he said, could only be built if the NU students and young generations remained consistent with any field approved by organization.
"The scientific field is important as base of thinking. The religious field is a field of struggle for Nahdliyin cadres. The dimension of leadership constitutes the foundation for both organizing and leading the country
. While in the filed of nationhood, it is a final value to actualize the organizational vision," he said.
Meanwhile Minister of Communication and Information Muhammad Nuh giving a speech at the congress also expected NU young generations to have a strong scientific foundation.
"Now, the most important thing is having scientific basis so that any opportunity will expectedly address the need of cadres whose creativity and capability," Nuh who is also from the IPNU cadre said.
He called on IPNU and IPPNU to be such medium of studying and capable of producing competent cadres whose high spirit of study.
In responding to the statements made by Hasyim and Nuh, chairman of IPNU Idy Muzayyad assrted that IPNU was fully a cadre organization and not involved in practical politics.
"IPNU is a neutral organiation whose no any connection with politics. Nevertheless, it gives more opportunity to its cadres to study about politics to have such experience," Idy added. (ziz)
