Indonesian Director General for Defense Strategy Maj. Gen. Dadi Susanto visited China recently to have talks on the finalization of a draft agreement on technical defense cooperation between Indonesia and China.

"The director general`s visit to China was a follow-up to the strategic partnership agreement on defense and security signed by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his Chinese counterpart President Hu Jintao in April 2005," Defense Attache of the Indonesian Embassy Yayat Sudrajat said here on Sunday.<>

Sudrajat made the statement commenting on the results of Dadi Susanto`s visit to Beijing last week.

The draft cooperation agreement would be sent to Jakarta for discussion and it is expected that this year the draft would be signed by the defense ministers of both countries.

"We hope that the draft agreement will be signed by the defense ministers of the two countries this year," Sudrajat was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

The draft agreement among other things included cooperation in an exchange of visits by both countries` military personnel to study the defense system of respective countries and other forms of cooperation in the security and defense fields.

The defense attache said that both countries had political will to sign the agreement as soon as possible as a realization of their strategic partnership cooperation signed in April 2005. (dar)
