General chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi admiitted hearing his name ranks the 18th of the world's 500 most influential Muslims, according to a report published by the Amman-based Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre, Jordan.
"I have heard (the news) from mass media and some informing me (about it)," Hasyim said here on Friday (20/11), adding that the most important thing was how to be the outstanding figure before God.<>
"That is the ranking made by human in the world, it's of course different from the ranking made by God and the one in the hereafter," the president of the World Conference of Religions for Peace (WRCP) said.
He was of the view despite the ranking, he would be committed to giving his best for the sake of the ummah (people). Behind the honor, he added, the outstanding was, again and again, NU rather than him himself. "But all this is because of NU."
"If now the world is recognizing me, this is actually the world's recognition towards NU," Hasyim said. (mkf)
