Hasyim admits his "halal" DKP funds

Former vice presidential candidate KH Hasyim Muzadi said here Monday that that the money amounting to Rp. 10 million he had received from the former Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Rokhmin Dahuri was absolutely halal and was nothing to do with the DKP non-budgetary funds.

"The money is halal. I would not submit it," Hasyim said, adding that if he submitted it, he could be accused of having received the corrupted money.<>

Hasyim who was Megawati's running mate in July 2004 presidential election asserted his remarks following the investigation of the Corruption Eradication Commision (KPK) dealing with the mystery surrounding the alleged distribution of the DKP non-budgetary funds to several parties.

He admitted that he didn't know whether the money belongs to the government.

"I don't know whether the money belongs to the government or not," Hasyim said, citing that it's impolite to ask Rokhmin Dahuri direcly related to the origin of the money.

Rokhmin Dahuri, who served as fisheries and maritime affairs minister under former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, is currently on trial for allegedly misappropriating Rp11.5 billion from his ministry`s non-budgetary fund.

During his trial, Rokhmin has revealed the names of political parties and individuals that allegedly received the money, including members of the Prosperous Justice Party, Golkkar Party and the United Development Party. (rif)
